Markets recover, but the Nifty records a seventh straight weekly loss
Markets bounced back on Friday after Thursday's sharp fall: the Sensex rose 315 points to 73,895.74 and the Nifty gained 77 points to 23,140.50, led by auto, consumer durables and private banks while IT stocks lagged. Even so, the Nifty ended lower for a seventh straight week, its longest weekly losing run since 2020. The rupee recovered 19 paise to 95.80 per dollar as crude eased on reports of a possible phased US and Iran deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Gold in Mumbai was almost flat. In company news, NSE's shares slipped a day after their stock market debut, Natco Pharma announced a ₹1,279 crore rights issue and the Moneyview IPO crossed six times subscription on day two.
Why it matters
A one-day bounce inside a seven-week slide is normal market behaviour. If you invest through a monthly SIP, weeks like these mean your fixed amount buys more units than it did a few months ago. The useful habit is to keep contributions steady rather than react to each day's move.
