Protecting What You Have

Lesson 23 of 30 2 min read

Disclosing correctly when you buy

Key idea

Honesty on the application form is not a formality. It is the thing that makes your policy actually pay when it matters.

When you buy insurance, you answer questions about your health, habits, and history. It is tempting to shade the truth to lower the premium, especially about smoking or an existing condition. It is also the fastest way to have a future claim rejected.

What full disclosure protects

  • Disclose

    every condition & habit

  • Insurer

    prices it correctly

  • Claim

    cannot be voided for it

A disclosed pre-existing condition simply carries a waiting period; an undisclosed one can void the entire claim. Disclosing might raise your premium modestly or add a wait, but it keeps the policy honest and enforceable. A slightly higher premium beats a rejected claim by an enormous margin.

The protection you earn by being honest

Fill the form carefully, tell the truth, and keep a copy of what you declared. It is the least glamorous step and one of the most important.
