Key idea
A claim is stressful enough without avoidable mistakes. Knowing the two routes and their paperwork in advance makes the process far calmer.
The moment you need to claim is not the moment to learn how. Health claims run on one of two tracks, and knowing which applies, and what each needs, removes most of the friction.
The two claim routes
| Route | How it works |
|---|---|
| Cashless (network | Inform insurer, hospital gets pre-authorisation, |
| hospital) | insurer settles directly |
| Reimbursement (any | |
| You pay, then submit bills and reports to claim it back | |
| hospital) |
Reimbursement (any You pay, then submit bills and reports to claim it back hospital)
What smooths a claim
For cashless, notify the insurer as early as possible (there are usually timelines for planned and emergency admissions) and let the hospital's insurance desk handle the pre-authorisation. For reimbursement, keep everything: itemised bills, prescriptions, diagnostic reports, and the discharge summary. Missing documents are the commonest cause of delay.
