Ion Exchange (India)
Water-treatment engineering, resins, chemicals and long-term services.
Water looks like one industry. Ion Exchange makes money from almost every layer of it. A city, factory or power plant may need water treated before use, wastewater cleaned after use and chemicals or resins replaced throughout the system’s life. Ion Exchange can participate in all of those steps. That makes it more than an EPC contractor: it has project engineering, proprietary products and recurring services. One large treatment plant can create a customer relationship that lasts long after construction ends.
The one thing to remember: The moat is projects plus recurring products and services, not project execution alone.
How the business works
Ion Exchange designs and builds water and wastewater plants, manufactures ion-exchange resins and treatment chemicals, and provides operations, maintenance and service. Projects are lumpy and working-capital intensive; products and services are more repeatable. That mix gives the company a deeper water franchise than a pure contractor.

Ramsam Takeaway
Ion Exchange is best viewed as a water-technology platform rather than only a contractor. Projects give it customer access; products and services deepen the relationship. The business is highest quality when recurring revenue grows alongside engineering without allowing cash-hungry projects to dominate.
